There are some iconic shirt number’s in football and some of the greatest footballers have worn them on their backs. A lot of people remember the players for what they’ve done for their clubs and what they have achieved. Players move on to different clubs or they decide its time to hang up their boots. One thing the fans always remember is who has worn their clubs most famous shirt and its all down to the number on the back.

Icons Football Shirt, Only The Best

Lionel Messi is arguably the best player the game has ever seen and he has made history wearing the No.10 for Barcelona, while Cristiano Ronaldo who is also regarded by some as the best player to play the game, wore the iconic No.7 for Manchester United, Real Madrid and now Juventus.

Mesut Ozil has had a chnage in shirt numbers recently and now wear’s the No.10 for Arsenal…previous owner? A certain Dennis Bergkamp. Someone now has big boots to fill! Another player with big boots to fill is Naby Keita who wears the No.8 shirt for Liverpool previously worn by Steven Gerrard but i think its fare to say, I don’t think anyone could fill those boots.

No.7 Football Shirt, More Than Just A Number

Arguably the most famous shirt in football is the No.7. Many players from different clubs have worn it and they have all been world class footballers. George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo all wore the famous shirt for Manchester United through the years, each player having bigger boots to fill. Wearing the shirt came with its own pressure and you had to be one of the best in order to handle it…Those players cartainly did that.

The No.7 for Manchester United is the one I always remember as I am a huge United fan. I’ve grew up watching the majority of the players to wear the number 7 and although everyone of the players were fantastic in their own rights, there is one who sticks out in my mind as the best ever, that is Cristiano Ronaldo. Some may agree, some may not however you can’t take away that man’s talent and he now owns that shirt number wherever he goes, hence his nickname CR-7.

Many of you out there have your own personal favourite player who wore the No.7 and your own memories.

No.10 Football Shirt, Legendary

The No.10 is probably a more recognisable shirt to all football fans as so many great players have worn the shirt. Ronaldinho, Zidane, Messi, Maradonna, Pele, Totti, Rivaldo, Roberto Baggio, the list goes on!

The No.10 to me means you are either the best player in your team or one of them, just look at the list of players I mentioned above. All of them have won nearly everything there is to win in football give or take a trophy or two.

Zinedine Zidane famously wore the No.10 shirt for France in the 2006 World Cup Final against Italy, where he got sent off late in the match with the score level at 1-1. There is a famous photogragh of Zidane and he’s seen walking past the famous trophy full of regret i’d imagine. Although he had already won the trophy in 1998 where he scored two goals in the final, but this one slipped through his grasp as France later lost on penalties. This was Zidane’s last ever game of football as he chose to retire before the final and the photograph is iconic.

Lionel Messi also donned the No.10 shirt for both FC Barcelona and Argentina. He has won everything there is to win in club football with Barcelona and has broken many records and recieved many awards including five Balon D’or trophies. The same cant be said for his records with Argentina, although he is still the same player things just didnt click with his national side and has lost all three major finals he has been involved in.

Messi is known for wearing the No.10 shirt all over the world and young fans have his name and number on the backs of their shirt and he is regarded as the greatest player of all time.

Classic International Shirt, Wear It With Pride

Many players wore the same shirt number for their clubs and also their country, it’s what they were known for and it’s how the fans remember them.
